Uncle Sam

Uncle Sam is a national personification of the United States, depicting the federal government or the country as a whole. He is typically portrayed as an older man with white hair, and a beard, wearing a top hat, coat, and bow tie in red, white, and blue. The character's origin is linked to Samuel Wilson, a businessman from Troy, New York, who supplied beef to the U.S. Army during the War of 1812, with his barrels labeled "U.S." which was humorously interpreted as standing for "Uncle Sam". The image of Uncle Sam gained widespread recognition through a 1917 World War I recruiting poster by James Montgomery Flagg, which featured the iconic caption "I Want You for U.S. Army". Over time, Uncle Sam has become a symbol of patriotism and the U.S. government, often used in propaganda and popular culture.
