Sloth (The Goonies)

Sloth, from the 1985 classic The Goonies, is a gentle giant with a deformed face and limited speech, initially feared as a monstrous outcast but ultimately revealed to be a loyal and heroic friend. Born Lotney Fratelli and abused by his cruel family—left chained in a basement and scarred from being dropped as a baby—he finds kindness and acceptance through Chunk, bonding over a Baby Ruth candy bar. His immense strength and childlike heart make him a crucial ally, culminating in a heroic entrance wearing a Superman shirt to save the Goonies. By the film’s end, Sloth is adopted by Chunk’s family, symbolizing the triumph of compassion over prejudice.
